QUALIFICATIONS:  Per  Miss. Code Ann. 37-9-13

AA Certification in Administration; At least 6 years experience as a licensed administrator. 3 years superintendent experience preferred. Valid Mississippi Administrator's license, have classroom or administrative experience of not less than 6 years which shall include at least 3 years  administrative experience as a school bldg. in (a) in a school with an "A" or "B" accountability rating. pr (b) in a school that increased its accountability rating by a letter grade during the period in which the principal was employed as principal at the school, or (c) in a school with comparable which the principal was employed as principal at the school, or (c) in a school with comparable accountability rating or improvement in another state which shall be verified by the Miss. Department of Education.  Endorsement 486 (applications taken until position is filled)

School Board 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT/SALARY:

Terms of employment and salary will be recommended by the superintendent and established by the school board.

 

Job Goal:

To provide leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services for the school district.  To direct the financial and academic processes of the district toward achievement of the district vision and mission.

 

EXPECTATIONS:

Superintendent is expected to work in cooperation with the School Board, Administrators, and Staff in the East Tallahatchie School District.


Superintendent is expected to follow the chain of command. 

 

Superintendent is expected to maintain a positive attitude.   

 

The Superintendent is expected to keep confidential conversations and issues confidential.

 

Superintendent is expected to have good people skills in dealing with fellow workers. If conflict develops between the 

Superintendent and another staff member, the Superintendent is expected to try and resolve the conflict as quickly as possible.

 

Superintendent is expected to work with the principals of each campus. 

 

Superintendent is expected to present school board with an annual evaluation of the entire school program, along with goals and suggestions for the next school year.  This is to be presented in the July Board Meeting.


Superintendent is expected to be a role model of instructional leadership and professionalism to all stakeholders.
 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attends and participates in meetings of the Board and its committees, except when own employment or salary is under consideration.

 

Administers as chief school executive, the development and maintenance of a positive educational pro­gram designed to meet the needs of the community and to carry out the policies of the Board.

 

Advises the Board on the need for new or revised policies and sees that all policies of the Board are implemented.

 

Prepares and submits to the Board recommendations relative to all matters requiring Board action, placing before the Board such necessary and helpful facts/ information, and reports as are needed to ensure the making of informed decisions.

 

As executive officer of the school board, the Superintendent shall interpret the policies of the Board of Trustees and shall establish administrative procedures and regulations necessary for implementation of said policies.

 

In cases where action by the superintendent is warranted, and in the absence of policy, the superintendent is authorized to act.  The superintendent’s decision/s shall be subject to review and action by the Board at its regular meeting.  It shall be the duty of the superintendent to inform the board promptly of such action and the need for policy.

 

Supervises the implementation of all laws, regulations, and Board polices.

 

Makes all administrative decisions within the school necessary to the proper function of the school dis­trict.

 

Makes such rules and gives such instructions to school employees and students as may be necessary to implement Board policy.

 

Delegates at own discretion to other employees of the Board the exercise of any powers or the discharge of any duties with the knowledge that the delegation of power or duty does not relieve the superinten­dent of final responsibility for the action taken under such delegation.

 

Supervise and evaluate the extent to which principals lead school instruction.

 

Conducts a periodic audit of the total school program, and advises the Board on recommendations for the educational advancement of the schools.

 

Recommends to the Board for its adoption all courses of study, curriculum guides, and major changes in texts and time schedules to be used in the schools.

 

Establish uniform disciplinary policies for the school district.

 

Establish standards for promotion, retention, and graduation of students that incorporate the results of state and local testing programs.

 

Communicates directly or through delegation all actions of the Board relating to personnel matters to all employees and receives from employees communications to be made to the Board.

 

Directs staff negotiations with professional and nonprofessional personnel.

 

Recommends for appointment, election, or employment all employees of the Board except professional officers of the Board, and assigns, transfers, and recommends for dismissal any and all employees of the Board except professional officers of the

Board. Employs such personnel as may be necessary, within the limits of budgetary provisions and subject to the Board's approval.

 

Assigns and transfers employees as the interest of the district may dictate and reports such action to the Board for information and record.

 

Holds such meetings of teachers and other employees as necessary for the discussion of matters concern­ing the improvement and welfare of the schools,

 

Supervises the methods of teaching, supervision, and administration in the schools.

 

Approves vacation schedules for salaried district employees under direct supervision.

 

Suspends any employee for just cause (in accordance with Board Policy) and reports such suspension to the Board.

 

Recommends to the Board for final action the promotion, salary changes, demotion, or dismissal of any employee.

 

Reports to the Board the case of any employee whose service is unsatisfactory and recommends appro­priate action.

 

Directs the preparation of the annual budget for adoption by the Board and administers the budget as enacted by the Board, acting at all times in accordance with legal requirements and adopted Board poli­cies.

 

Establishes and maintains efficient procedures and effective controls for all expenditures of school funds in accordance with the adopted budget.

 

Acts as purchasing agent for the Board, and establishes procedures for the purchase of books, materials, and supplies.

 

Provides suitable instructions and regulations to govern the use and care of school properties.

 

Recommends to the Board sales of all property no longer required by the Board and supervises the proper execution of such sales.

 

Maintains directly or through delegation such personnel records, pupil accounting records, business records, and other records that are required by law and by Board policy.

 

Files, or causes to be filed, all reports required by the state and the school code.

 

Makes recommendations to the Board concerning the transportation of pupils in accordance with the law and the requirements of safety.

 

Makes recommendations with reference to the location and size of new school sites and or additions to existing sites; the location and size of new buildings on school sites; the plans for new school buildings; all appropriations for sites and buildings; and improvements, alterations, and changes in the buildings and equipment of the district

 

Represents the district in its dealings with other school systems, institutions, agencies, and community organizations.

 

Attends such conventions and conferences as are necessary to keep abreast of latest educational trends.

 

Confers periodically with professional and lay groups concerning the school program and transmits to the Board suggestions gained from such conferences.

 

Works toward developing a written school district long-range education plan to carry local and state objectives as specified by board policy.

 

Coordinates performance based school district instructional requirements.

 

Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned by the Board.

 

Strives to improve State Test Scores throughout the school district.

 

Oversees and directs (with Board approval) 16 Section Lands.

 

Evaluates at least twice a year all administrators.

 

Directs the up - dating of policies for the school district.

 

Prepares a school calendar for each school year.

 

Provides educational updates to other administrators within the district.

 

Oversees the administration of the MSIS and SAMS7 in the district.
 

HOUSING

The Superintendent will have an office at the District Office.

 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Superintendent is expected to attend Superintendent’s Training provided by Mississippi State Department of Education, and other workshops that will enhance Superintendent’s knowledge and training.

 

The Superintendent is expected to work in cooperation with the District Administrative Staff in planning and directing professional development and curriculum for the District.

Any other duties as assigned by the School Board

 

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the School Board according to the School Board’s approved evaluation instrument for the Superintendent.
